EDITION 4/2011

from the heart of the team

There are numerous elements, which have the power to motivate us. Think of the picture on your fridge of your skinny self 10 years ago. Or to use the last drop of energy to reach the summit and be awarded by a breathtaking view. On a more serious note – motivation is more successful with long-term effects when it comes from inside you. When we are still learners of life, we are motivated by everything that shines – the money, the car and the name plaque on your corner office’ door. But as one gets older and ultimately wiser, the internal locus of control features more. One soon realises that “There's gotta be more to life” ala Stacie Orrico. Do what you really want to do, not because you have to, be content with yourself and make the most of your life.

Lack of Motivation……? Blame it on Newton

One cannot deny the effect science has on how we relate to our world. When a scientist makes remarkable discoveries, society is eager to assimilate those into all walks of life. However this pattern does create other dilemmas like: “How do you change a school of thought once created by a revered scientist like Sir Isaac Newton?”

Newtonian-thinking created a one-sided view of the world we live in. This viewpoint or paradigm created a world where people craved for order, structure and control. A world characterised by the letter of the law and not the spirit of the law; where creative thinking was perceived as a threat rather than an opportunity.

Protea Netball Team

TBI was honoured to facilitate our national netball team – the Proteas - before they leave for Singapore to compete in the World Championships. Although the leany and leggy players dwarfed Liesel, she facilitated an excellent session, which energized and motivated the team. Watch the YouTube video to get a glimpse of the lasses shouting “a-ko-so” and balancing on the multivine:

TBI’s own team building: 8 – 12 June

You know the saying that the doctor’s children are always sick? Well, we decided that it is time to practice what we preach before the epidemic is spreading. We are loving what we do and do what we love, so what better spot to check-in with one another than the Adventure Training Centre in Oudsthoorn, home to one of our franchises, TBI Adventures. Though most team members were out of their comfort zones, everyone enjoyed it! The daunting caving didn’t even seem so hard to master when you have supporting colleagues, helping you to see the light at the end of the … cave!

what do you think?

Alex bought a bag of apples on Saturday, and he ate a third of them. On Sunday he ate half of the remaining apples. He ate one more on Monday and one more on Tuesday, then ate half of the remaining apples on Wednesday. On Thursday he looked in the bag and saw that there was just one apple left. How many apples did the bag have to begin with?

TEAM House

Demolished walls, rubble, sand and dust. Although that doesn’t paint a beautiful picture, you cannot make an omelet without breaking the eggs. Our building contractor and his efficient team are in the process of transforming the house into a modern and simplistic office space, which is soon to be the new administrative home of the company, aptly named TEAM House.
